Baxter Peak is the highest peak of Katahdin and the highest point in Maine. It features views in all directions from its rocky summit. The summit is the northern terminus of the Appalachian Trail. It has an elevation of 5,267 feet. The summit was officially recognized by the US Board on Geographic Names as "Baxter Peak" in 1931.
