The Phantom Ranch Mule Ride is a multi day adventure descending 10.5 miles down the Bright Angel Trail to the canyon floor and historic Phantom Ranch. Departing from the stone corral next to Bright Angel Lodge, riders receive a safety briefing before beginning the approximately five and a half hour descent, with rest stops along the way and a lunch break at Indian Garden. The route continues across the Colorado River via suspension bridge and up Bright Angel Canyon to Phantom Ranch, a rustic oasis nestled deep in the canyon. Overnight guests stay in shared cabins equipped with bunk beds, sink, toilet, bedding, soap, and hand towels, with showers available nearby. A hearty dinner is served family style at the Phantom Ranch Canteen, followed by breakfast the next morning before the five and a half hour return ride to the rim. One night rides are available year round, while two night rides operate seasonally from November through March. Meals are included and special dietary needs should be noted at the time of booking. Riders must reconfirm reservations at least two days in advance and check in at the Bright Angel Transportation Desk preferably the day before departure or at least 90 minutes prior. Rain gear should be brought as needed based on weather forecasts. Rates include applicable taxes and are subject to change. Operating dates and availability are subject to change.
