Old Big Oak Flat Road (T2) Details

At this point, the Old Big Oak Flat crosses the road. Big Oak Flat was an old mining community located about 30 miles west of Yosemite National Park. It was named after an oak tree over 11 feet in diameter which was growing on level ground. The road was completed in 1874, one month after the Coulterville Road, the first road built to Yosemite Valley. The old route could be driven up until 1945 when two massive rockslides closed the switchback portion of the road. Roadside marker: T2
