Harris Neck National Wildlife Refuge Details

Harris Neck National Wildlife Reserve is the inland base for two neighboring barrier islands in southern coastal Georgia. It's an important link for migratory birds along the Atlantic Flyway. The refuge is a premier nesting habitat for both wood storks, which nest in a large colony on Woody Pond, and the painted bunting, a unique bird which nests in the maritime scrub areas. Birdwatchers can delight in the reserves of this area; upwards of 342 species of birds have been seen on the Harris Neck NWR and 83 species breed here.
