Hohokam Pima National Monument Details

Established in 1972, the Hohokam Pima National Monument protects an ancient Hohokam village known as "Snaketown," a community believed to have been occupied as early as 300 B.C., with perhaps 2,000 residents. Located on lands belonging to the Gila River Indian Community near Sacaton, Ariz., the park has the distinction of being the nation's least accessible National Monument: due to the sensitive nature of the archaeological ruins, the tribe has long barred access to the public.
