Castle Rock National Wildlife Refuge is a 14-acre island sanctuary for the Aleutian cackling goose and nesting seabirds. The area is unique among the more than 1,000 offshore rocks and islands in California thanks to its various habitats, including sheer rock cliffs, reef, vegetated terraces, and a small pebble beach. The refuge is a resting site for harbor seals and northern elephant seals and is preserved in its natural condition because of minimal human intrusion.
