Sonoma Coast State Park Details
The rugged landscape of this park is a diverse mix of coastal prairies, marine terraces, and rocky shorelines. As the crashing waves retreat, they expose hundreds of tide pools and natural stone arches that protrude from the ocean. The water is best viewed from afar, as it's far too rough for any sort of water-related activities. This undeveloped area is also a habitat for many types of creatures, including gray whales, harbor seals, California sea lions, and over 300 types of birds. One of the best ways to explore the park is via the five-mile trail system that leads through the dunes and beaches. There are also some pretty spectacular picnic sites with picturesque views at Bodega Head, Bodega Dunes, Rock Point, Duncans Landing, Wrights Beach.
