Placerita Canyon State Park Details

Six years from the Gold Rush, a man named Francisco Lopez discovered gold flakes on the roots of wild onions he pulled from the ground. His discovery attracted a few thousand miners, although nothing near the numbers of the 1849 rush. The landscape of the park includes riparian oak woodlands and rocky sandstone formations, as it is centrally located between the San Gabriel Mountains and the Mojave Desert. There is also a restored 1920s cabin and several nature trails for hikers.
