His discovery attracted a few thousand miners, although nothing near the numbers of the 1849 rush. The landscape of the park includes riparian oak woodlands and rocky sandstone formations, as it is centrally located between the San Gabriel Mountains and the Mojave Desert. There is also a restored 1920s cabin and several nature trails for hikers.
