Olompali State Historic Park Details
This 700-acre park has a history that dates back to 6,000 BC when native Coast Miwok tribes made this area their main village. You can still see one of the original adobe structures they built-in 1776 (the oldest house built north of San Francisco), although artifacts have also been found dating back to the mid-1500s. The park is in the middle of a project to restore many of the buildings from the tribal village. In addition to the adobe home, visitors can also hike around the park via the 2.5-mile Miwok Loop Trail. More adventurous hikers can also trek up to the peak of Mount Burdell, a 1,558-foot mountain inside the park.
