Located in Jackson County, Illinois, on 1022 acres, Lake Murphysboro State Park was established in 1948. Boating and fishing for largemouth bass, bluegill and channel catfish, particularly bank fishing, are both popular on the lake. A three-mile trail is ideal for birders, hikers, and wildlife photographers. Camping and picnicking sites are also available in scenic areas around the lake. Camping sites include tent sites, trailer sites, and well-equipped sites including three Class-A handicap sites. An archery site is also located in the northwest portion of the park.
