James "Pate" Philip (Tri-County) State Park Details

Established in 1991, James "Pate" Philip State Park, located in Kane and DuPage counties, is situated on 3,432 acres of land. The land had in the past been over-grazed and tilled for decades, but it is now being nurtured with the goal of returning it to bang one of the most diverse natural areas in the state. The endangered dwarf bur reed has managed to survive in a small wetland in the park, and waterfowl, Blanding's turtle, and the yellow-headed blackbird can now all be found in the park. Visitors to the park are welcome, but certain areas may be seasonally restricted in order to preserve the recovery of the ecosystem.
