Porcelain Basin Trail Details
This short boardwalk loop runs though one of the most easily accessible thermal basins. Beginning from the Norris Geyser Basin Museum, which explains the basin's features and natural history, this pleasant walking tour can be accompanied by a self-guided tour booklet available from the museum. The every changing terrain of this mineralized landscape is named after the white geyserite stone and mineral-saturated water that pools around the many fissures and steam vents found here. Highlights include the very active Whirligig Geyer, which sprays water is various directions when it erupts, Constant Geyer, which erupts in short, frequent bursts over 25 feet high, and the loud Black Growler Steam Vent and Crackling Lake.
