As a large saltwater inlet, the Basin on the New Meadows River is an important saltwater estuary supporting a variety of flora and fauna. Part of a much larger conservation land area, thousands of acres make up this beautifully wooded scene with rolling hills and waterside views. The Denny Reed Trail follows 1.2 easy miles to eventually come out to views of the Basin Preserve. The hike on the way there though also takes visitors over both new and old dams, farmlands, and fields.
