Nestled between the mouths of the Morse and Kennebec Rivers, Popham Beach State Park is a total of 605 acres of uniquely carved dunes and beach. With the currents from the ocean and rivers meeting at this point, the riptides can be harsh but have created a unique beachscape that is popular for water sports, sunbathing and hiking. During low tide, Fox Island is a popular spot to walk out to, though visitors are warned to watch for the incoming tide. If you're wary of the water and history is more your thing, check out the remains of the Popham Settlement and Fort George to get a glimpse of into earlier times.
