The Triad Details

The Triad is a great, relatively easy loop trail that offers hikers a rewarding experience with stunning coastal views and peaceful forested paths. This trio of modest peaks, reaching a maximum elevation of 696 feet, provides an excellent vantage point overlooking the Cranberry Isles and nearby Day Mountain. Located on the quieter side of Mount Desert Island, the Triad loop is ideal for those seeking a less crowded yet scenic hike. The trail meanders through a mix of dense woodlands, open granite ledges, and gentle inclines, making it an enjoyable route for both beginner and experienced hikers. Along the way, hikers are treated to classic Acadia landscapes, including moss-covered boulders, pine-fringed ridgelines, and glimpses of the ocean beyond. Ascending to the summits of the three small peaks, hikers are rewarded with expansive views stretching across the Cranberry Isles, the coastline, and the rolling hills of Acadia’s interior. The elevation gain is gradual, making this an accessible hike while still offering a sense of accomplishment at the top. The loop can be accessed from multiple trailheads, often connecting with other nearby hikes like Day Mountain or the Jordan Pond area, allowing for customized routes. The seasonal changes enhance the hike’s beauty, with vibrant fall foliage, lush summer greenery, and peaceful snow-dusted trails in winter. Overall, the Triad loop is a fantastic choice for those looking to explore Acadia’s rugged yet approachable terrain, enjoy panoramic coastal views, and experience a quieter, nature-immersed trek within the park. Trailhead: from Carriage Road intersection #17.
