East Rim Trail Details

One of the most popular trails in the Zion National Park backcountry, this incredibly scenic route contains some of the most spectacular vistas in the American southwest. Beginning with views of the naturally crisscrossed stone of Checkerboard Mesa, the trail follows an old wagon road through mixed evergreens shrubs as it steeply climbs to Jolly Gulch and Stave Spring. As it continues along the edge of Echo Canyon, a deep, cavernous slot canyon, the trail begins to descend along sandstone cliffs and weathered rock faces into Zion Canyon. Panoramic vistas abound on this trail, and every corner yields something more spectacular than the last.
