These are grouped into several major areas, including the Fountain Group, Firehole Lake Group, White Dome Group, Great Fountain - White Creek Group, and the Imperial Group. The half-mile Fountain Paint Pot Trail provides a quick and accessible tour of these hydrothermal highlights. Along the boardwalk you'll pass Silex Spring -- rich in thermophile microorganisms that thrive in hot water -- the colorful, bubbling Fountain Paint Pot, and more than half a dozen geysers.
