Red Spouter Details
In the early spring and summer, this interesting thermal feature becomes a pool of vivaciously bubbling, splashing reddish mud. Although it looks a good deal like a small geyser during this time it is actually a fumarole, or steam vent, that simply gets drowned by water from snowmelt and rain that collects in the area around the vent. When the water table lowers, it takes on the more typical, hissing behaviors of a fumarole.
