Steamboat Springs Details
Early explorers of Yellowstone had a habit of naming geothermal features after the steam-powered machines of their time. Thus the name of Steamboat Springs which, although located on the shores of Yellowstone Lake, were never actually visited by steamboats. Don't let the jets of hot steam at the water's edge fool you: the waters of Yellowstone Lake are quite frigid, even during the peak of summer.
