Washburn Range Details
The Washburn Range, which dominates the skyline in the north-central part of Yellowstone National Park, is topped by Mt. Washburn. The mountain range has seven summits with an average elevation of 9,800 feet, including Dunraven Peak, Cook Peak, Hedges Peak, Prospect Peak, Observation Peak, Folsom Peak, and Specimen Ridge. The Washburn Range and the Red Mountains are the only mountain ranges entirely within the boundaries of the park. The mountains were once part of a large volcano that sat outside of the present Yellowstone caldera.
