Sylvan Pass Details
Sylvan Pass breaches the Absaroka Range at an elevation of 8,541 feet near Top Notch Peak. The twisting road through the pass once included an unusual "corkscrew" to help cars conquer the grade; you can still see the tunnel that allowed the road to loop around, built in 1919, at a pulloff near the pass. The pass is prone to avalanches, so road closures are not uncommon; check before you go.
