Cades Cove Area Details
Imagine a living-history museum like Plimouth Plantation or Colonial Williamsburg on a grand scale, and you have Cades Cove. An entire, 6,800-acre valley complete with homes, churches, barns, and roads has been preserved as an example of a landlocked mountain community of the 1800s. An 11-mile loop road allows you to tour the valley by car or bicycle, and you can follow a self-guided tour to many of the highlights. The drive will take one to two hours depending on traffic, which can be heavy during the summer and in October. There also are hiking trails to Abrams Falls, Ace Gap, and Bode Mountain, as well as an easy nature trail in the valley.
