When it was built in 1939-40, the Saskatchewan Crossing Warden Residence was the first to be built near a traditional fording spot, across the upper Saskatchewan River and next to the Icefields Parkway. The residence reflects a shift in the park wardens' activities from the park's backcountry to the front country and closer to the main roads. This is also the first of several warden residences and outbuildings that would support this area of the park. The Saskatchewan Crossing Warden Residence sits on a traditional fording spot, across the upper Saskatchewan River and next to the Icefields Parkway. It is the oldest and most conspicuous building of approximately 12 found at the warden station. The Saskatchewan Crossing Warden Residence is listed on Canada's Historic Places and the Canadian Register, and is a Federal Heritage Building.
