Skoki Ski Lodge Details
The Skoki Ski Lodge was built in 1930-31 by a group of Banff residents who formed the Ski Club of the Canadian Rockies. When the Ski Club of the Canadian Rockies decided to build a lodge, the Swiss mountain guides who were employed by the Canadian Pacific Railway suggested the site in the Skoki Valley because of its suitability for skiing and the logs and water that were readily available. The lodge first opened its doors to guests in 1931, and was the first facility built specifically to accommodate ski tourists in Canada on a commercial basis, and perhaps all of North America. Over the course of the next five years, several additions were made to accommodate all of its guests. The Skoki Ski Lodge was designated a Canadian National Historic Site in 1992 because of its early contribution to tourism and outdoor recreation within the park, as well as its rustic design. Today, the lodge is open year-round, welcoming guests to Banff National Park's backcountry.
