Ruby Creek Details
Ruby Creek was the primary mining area during the North Cascades gold rush of the 1870s, and the thousands of prospectors who flooded the area helped build trails, roads, and bridges in the Ruby Basin. The dreams of gold never panned out, though, and only 38 claims were ever made on the Ruby Creek. Today, little evidence of mining remains, but abandoned equipment can still be seen along the Happy Creek Falls Trail. Ruby Creek Trail, an easy, seldom-traveled 6.5-mile trail, also features old dig zones, equipment, and decrepit mining structures. The trail, which departs from the East Bank Ross Lake parking area on State Route 20, is a lovely, gentle climb along the creek that offers bird's-eye views of the rushing waters below.
