Lower Suma Ridge Trail Details
The Lower Suma Trail takes hikers to an archaeological site of an ancient star mound. There are interpretive exhibits that line the trail, explaining the history and importance of the site, in addition to great views of the northeastern coastline of the island and the Vai'ava Strait National Natural Landmark. Vai'ava Strait became a national landmark in 1972 and is a spectacular example of volcanic rock cliffs, formed from the pounding of the waves over time. Look beyond the straight to see Pola Island, a favorite among island birds as a nesting area.
