Pinery Butterfield Stage Station Ruins Details

In the mid 1800s, the Butterfield Overland Mail Company became the first railway to transport mail from the east coast to the west coast over the land, as opposed to by ship. They opened a station in the Guadalupe Mountains named the Pinery for the large number of pine trees surrounding it. The station was only used for a year. Its ruins are now on the National Register of Historic Places and you can visit them via a short paved path from the Pine Springs Visitor Center. You can see the remainders of the stone hut that served as a stopping point for people and mail along the trans-continental route. Please do not climb on the ruins, as they are fragile!
