Skunk Point Details
Located on Santa Rosa Island's east coast, Skunk Point is a birdwatcher's paradise -- but only during part of the year. The area is an important nesting and foraging area for young and migrating plovers. Restoration efforts are ongoing, and note that if you're visiting the island between March 1 and Sept. 15, the back beaches and sand dunes at Skunk Point and just north of East Point will be closed to protect nesting sea birds. Offshore is the Skunk Point Marine Preserve. Keep in mind that day trips to Santa Rosa Island via Island Packers, the park-authorized concessionaire, are available only April through early November.
