Lower & Upper Queets Valley Road Details
The Queets Valley was added to Olympic National Park in 1953 in order to preserve the entire Queets River Valley from its source to the sea. The scenic Lower and Upper Queets Valley roads runs from U.S. 101 to the Queets Ranger Station, tracing the path of the river and providing access to a campground, several boat ramps, views of the Lyman Rapids, and connections to the Sam's River Loop Trail and the Queets River Trail. A landslide severed Lower Queets Road in 2005, so the Park Service developed a detour to reconnect the lower and upper Queets roads using several forest roads. These rough, narrow roads can be slow going, and drivers need to keep a sharp eye for logging trucks.
