Winthrop Glacier Details

The second largest glacier on Rainier stretches from the mountain's summit to the 4,700-foot level of the West Fork of the White River, and has a series of ice domes that create crevasses. From 15,000 years ago until now, the glacier has retreated more than 3.7 miles. Walk by the Winthrop Glacier if you hike the Wonderland Trail, a 93-mile up-and-down hike that takes intrepid folks on a circumnavigation of Mount Rainier. Keep an eye out for the glacier from the Sunrise area of the park.
