Eagle Peak Trail Details

To reach the Eagle Peak Trail, drive past the Longmire information center, through the employee housing area, and across a suspension bridge over the Nisqually River. You'll find the trailhead a few hundred feet on the other side of the bridge. Check in at the ranger station to make sure the bridge is open. The trail climbs through a thick forest for the first two miles, crosses a stream, and then eventually opens up in a hillside meadow at about 3 miles, where you may spot subalpine flowers depending on the season. On the other side of the meadow, the rocky trail becomes steeper as you climb the last half mile to the 5,700-foot saddle (watch your step here, as it can be super steep, exposed, and slippery). Trail stats: About 7.2 miles roundtrip with just under 3,000 feet of elevation gain; 5 hours.
