Cougar Rock Campground Details

Cougar Rock Campground nestles in the woods across the street from the Nisqually River, and is the closest campground to Paradise, one of the five developed areas in the park. Paradise has a lodge, a visitor center, a ranger station, and trailheads, not to mention stunning views of Mount Rainier and the Cascade Mountain range. The campground, located at 3,180 feet in the southwestern section of the park, has 173 campsites with picnic tables and campfire rings for tents and RVs, drinking water, flush toilets, and a dump station. The site can accommodate RVs up to 35 feet, or vehicles with trailers up to 27 feet. None of the campgrounds in the park have electric hookups for RVs. Cougar Rock is one of only two campgrounds in the park that accepts reservations (the other is Ohanapecosh), but book your spot early, since sites go quickly during the short summer season (book online at [www.recreation.gov](http://www.recreation.gov) or by calling 877-444-6777).. The campground has an outdoor amphitheater where occasional interpretive programs are presented throughout the summer season. Foxes and other small critters can be a nuisance in the park, so keep your food or fragrant products in the car. Cougar Rock has four wheelchair-accessible sites (a Golden Access Card is required to book one), and accessible restrooms are located at the campground and picnic area. To talk to someone about accessibility needs or issues, contact 360-569-6575 (TDD users call 360-569-2177) between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. daily. The campground is typically open late May through late September, depending on the weather and road conditions. Fees are $20 for individual sites, or $60 for one of the five group sites. Quiet hours run from 9 p.m. to 7 a.m.
