Fremont River Trail Details

This mostly easy 2-mile out-and-back trail begins with a walk along the Fremont River and ends with a steep climb to a scenic panorama. The trailhead is at Loop B of the Fruita Campground, and hikers will begin with the Chesnut Orchard to their left, which bears almonds, apples and pears in season. To the right will be the Fremont River, fringed by cottonwoods and willow trees. There's a small box further on with trail brochures, available for 50 cents, and from here you'll pass the Mulford Orchard to the left. A little further on, hikers will encounter a fence, after which no pets or bicycles are allowed, although both are allowed on the first part of the trail. A .7-mile climb follows, and leads to viewpoints overlooking the Fremont River Gorge as it cuts through pinyon- and juniper-studded hills, and another scenic point with views of the Waterpocket Fold.
