The Sinking Ship Details
The Sinking Ship is a tilted mesa visible from Sunrise Point: its dramatic shape not only suggests the bow of a ship slowly sinking under the waves but also provides an illustration of the forces that helped create Bryce Canyon: the tilt is the result of tectonic uplift, and the sides of the "ship" are striped with the various rock layers you can also see in the park's hoodoos and other formations.
