Devil's Hall Trail Details
This strenuous 4.2-mile out-and-back hike begins at the Pine Springs Trailhead and follows the base of Guadalupe Peak toward the dramatic canyon known as Devil's Hall. After about the first mile, the route drops into a rocky wash, where the real work begins-expect rock scrambling, loose footing, and plenty of boulders to navigate as you follow the canyon upstream. The payoff is the Hiker's Staircase, an impressive natural rock staircase that leads into a narrow "hallway" framed by steep canyon walls, towering trees, and rugged mountaintops. The trail ends at Devil's Hall, marked by a sign, and the area is sometimes visited by rock climbers. Plan 3-5 hours for the hike, and park at the Pine Springs / park headquarters area to access the trailhead. Caution: Heavy summer rains can leave the wash filled with loose rocks and debris, making footing unstable. Wear sturdy footwear, consider trekking poles, and avoid the wash and canyon walls during wet or rainy conditions. The route also enters and exits desert washes in two spots-stay alert and watch for the trail, especially if visibility drops or you're hiking late.
