Marufo Vega Loop Trail Details

Named after goat grazer Gregorio Marufo, this 14-mile loop hike is a favorite among serious hikers. In order to create a loop, you have to walk across an open country section that connects the two ends of the trail, which is what most people choose to do. The trail is not particularly well marked so bringing a topographical map and compass is highly advised. The solitude and the majesty of the Deadhorse Mountains really make this one of the park's best long day-hikes. To access the Marufo Vega Loop Trail, park in the small lot across from the Boquillas Canyon Overlook and follow the signs to get on the trail!
