The Lost Mine Trail is a difficult 4.7-mile out and back trail. It is rated as difficult because it is uphill the entire way out, gaining 1,122 feet of elevation. It is a park favorite because of the amazing views during the hike and especially once you reach the top. The top of the trail is a great spot for a picnic and a few photos. The wildflowers that line the trail add a nice pop of color to the desert landscape and animal sightings are frequent and exciting. Please remember to keep a respectful distance from any creatures you encounter. To access the Lost Mine Trail, locate the trailhead a mile before the Chisos Basin Visitor Center.
