The Badger Hole Details

The Badger Hole is the name that South Dakota's first poet laureate Charles Badger Clark gave to the cabin where he lived from 1937 until his death in 1957. The log-and-stone cabin is located off Highway 16a in Custer State Park, a few miles west of the Peter Norbeck Visitor Center. Clark spent his years here writing and reading, and is considered a true representation of the western pioneer mentality. Visitors can tour the house, which has remained largely unchanged since Clarke's death in 1957. The Badger Clark Historical Trail runs through the woods near the house.
