Deerfield Reservoir Complex Campgrounds Details
There are three campgrounds on or near Deerfield Lake in Black Hills National Forest: the Custer Trail campground, the Dutchman Campground, and the Whitetail Campground. The Custer Trail Campground is on the north shore of the lake and features 16 tent sites, each at a cost of $14 per night, first-come, first-served. There is a boat launch at this campground, and you can also access the trailhead for the Deerfield Trail. From Highway 385 in Hill City, take Highway 306 to Highway 17 to FSR 417. The Dutchman Campground is slightly removed from the lakeshore, in a stand of ponderosa pines. The campground has 44 sites, four of which are accessible to people with disabilities, and running water and toilets. You can make reservations, but they are not required. Sites cost $18 per night. To get there, take Highway 385 from Hill City, to Highway 306, to Highway 17, to FSR 607 (roughly 14 miles). The campground is two miles down FSR 607. The Whitetail Campground is located on a hillside above the lake. There are 17 sites, which are available by reservation (though reservations are not required). Campsites cost $18 per night and there is both running water and vault toilets. From Highway 385 in Hill City, take Highway 306 to Highway 17, to FSR 421. The campground is one mile down FSR 421. All of the Deerfield Lake campgrounds stay open through the winter.
