State Road 244 Details

Four roads and highways combine to create the Peter Norbeck National Scenic Byway, including State Road 244, which is the only road that leads right to the entrance of Mount Rushmore. The 70-mile road, named for the senator and state governor of South Dakota who chose the layout for Iron Mountain Road (also part of the byway) and insisted on its construction, features hairpin curves, granite tunnels, bridges, and incredible views. The figure-eight route runs from the base of Mount Rushmore in Keystone to Custer State Park and back.
