Rather, its design and a 35-mph speed limit encourages travelers to take their time and take in their surroundings. Closer to Mount Rushmore, one-lane tunnels frame the monument either straight ahead or in the rearview mirror - whichever view you get, it's quite breathtaking. One stretch of Iron Mountain Road is Highway 244, which takes you right to the Mount Rushmore National Memorial entrance.
