Cedar Creek Landing to Route 601 Landing Details
For advanced paddlers and campers, and those with at least two vehicles, the approximately 20-mile, 12 to 14-hour trip from Cedar Creek Landing to the Route 601 Landing makes for a fun overnight trip; both spots have parking available. Starting at the Cedar Creek Landing, you'll paddle through the wilder eastern section of the park, not to mention some of the oldest remaining bald cypress and tupelo forests, dripping with Spanish moss. Cedar Creek enters the Congaree River at Mazyck's Cut; here you'll see a wooden sign post that points the way for you to go-follow the three trail markers and leisurely float downstream to the Route 601 Landing. If you decide to camp, doing so will be in the park's backcountry and you will need to obtain a free permit from the Longleaf Campground before embarking on your trip. Remember, Congaree National Park does not rent canoes, kayaks, or stand up paddle boards, so if you don't have your own, you'll need to rent from an outfitter in Columbia, about 30 minutes from the park.
