Red Lock Trailhead Details

No-one knows where Lock 34, or "Red Lock" got its name. Some believe it was from the red painted lock gates, or the red clay found when the canal was dug, while others think it was named after a rambunctious tavern owner. This dirt and gravel trail winds in and out of floodplains and deciduous forests. The trailhead is relatively secluded, situated near the Cuyahoga River and the bare stone walls of the disintegrating canal. The trail climbs over a ridge toward Station Road Bridge over relatively difficult grade and intersects both the Towpath Trail and the Buckeye Trail.
