Red Lock to Boston Store (Towpath Trail) Details
Used as a farm road and a mill utility road after the canals closed, this section of the Towpath Trail is now a curving path hugging the empty canal as it winds through swamps and old farm fields. After passing a spillway for Lock 34, the trail crosses Brandywine Creek and the site for the old Jaite Paper Mill. The mill, which was constructed in 1905, no longer stands, but an old Fourdrinier paper machine marks the site. A side trail on the Boston end of the trail leads to the Standford House and the 65-foot Brandywine Falls. The trail ends at the Boston Lock and Store, a museum focusing on canal-boat building and canal history.
