NPS Park Headquarters Details
The owners of the Jaite Company Paper Mill built Jaite Town at the intersection of Vaughn and Riverview roads at the dawn of the 20th century to provide housing, schools, and other services to mill workers and their families. The mill manufactured bags for flour, fertilizer, bread and cement, and the site was chosen for its proximity to both the Ohio & Erie Canal and the Cleveland Terminal & Valley Railroad. Workers included former local farmers as well as Polish immigrants, many of whom slept in common dorms in Jaite during the mill's heyday. The mill itself fell victim to the ravages of commerce and time -- its ruins can be seen from the Towpath Trail between Lock 31 and 32 -- but many of the yellow-painted Jaite Town buildings remain. The former Jaite Company Store is now the headquarters of the Cuyahoga Valley National Park. The headquarters isn't staffed for visitors, but you can pick up brochures here. Operating hours: Year-round: Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.
