Also part of the 1,400 mile Buckeye Trail, this section of the Towpath Trail traverses an area of the Cuyahoga Valley that is abounding in local canal history. Peninsula, the northern trailhead, was once a popular midway point for travelers that flourished as canal transportation increased, and many of the old buildings, including the slate-roofed Fox House have been restored to their former glory. The trail passes through the deepest lock of the canal, Deep Lock Quarry, which retains evidence of both boat usage and stone quarrying unseen in most of the canal's other locks.
