Cottonwood Campground Details
Cottonwood is one of two main campgrounds open year-round in Theodore Roosevelt National Park. It is located about five miles from the South Unit entrance, and a great base from which to explore that section of the park. Campsites are nestled under Cottonwood trees and near the Little Missouri River, where you will witness spectacular sunsets. Half of the 76 campsites are first-come, first-served, with one group site (six people or more) that is available by reservation only. Make a reservation by calling 1-877-444-6777 or going to [recreation.gov](http://www.recreation.gov/camping/juniper-campground-group-site/r/campgroundDetails.do?contractCode=NRSO&parkId=72481). Walk-in, pull-through, and back-in sites accommodate tents, trailers, and RVs. Each site is equipped with a picnic table and fire pit and allows up to six people and two vehicles (walk-in sites allow only one vehicle). There are no hook-ups for water, sewer, or electrical. The campground is outfitted with flush toilets and have running water, but no showers. During the winter months, facilities are limited to pit toilets and minimal operating water spigots. Summer fees are $14 per night for individual sites, $30 per night for the group site. The winter fee for an individual site is $7 per night. The exact line between summer and winter rate varies each year according to the weather conditions. Firewood must be purchased outside of the park but within North Dakota to limit the spread of invasive tree-killing pests. Pets are allowed, but must be kept on-leash and may not be left unattended at any time. Horses are allowed only at the Roundup Group Horse Campground, where reservations are required. Cottonwood Campground has four wheelchair-accessible campsites and two restrooms that meet ADA access requirements.
