Rainbow Falls Details

The highest single-drop falls in Great Smoky Mountains National Park, these pretty falls get their name from the rainbows that are produced by its mist on sunny days. The falls are also a popular destination in the winter, when they sometime freeze into impressive ice formations. These stunning falls are some of the most underrated in the park, and can be accessed via the moderately difficult, Rainbow Falls Trail. Trailhead: From the parkway in Gatlinburg, turn at traffic light #8 and follow Historic Nature Trail into Great Smoky Mountains National Park. Continue past the Noah "Bud" Ogle homesite to the clearly signed Rainbow Falls parking area.
