Newfound Gap Road Details
Newfound Gap Road (Route 441) runs the entire length of Great Smoky Mountain National Park -- the only road to do so -- and the 33-mile journey offers wonderful mountain vistas and easy access to hiking trails and other park attractions. The route from Gatlinburg, Tenn., to Cherokee, N.C., includes the 3,000-foot climb through the Newfound Gap -- a trip some have compared to traveling from Georgia to Maine as the forest ecosystem changes with the elevation.
