Mount Cammerer Details
This mountain, which is found in the northernmost section of the park, is best known for its "Yosemite-style" fire tower near its summit. Built in 1939, and restored in 1994, this octagonal tower constructed of stone, wood, and glass, offers impressive views of Pigeon River Gorge, Snowbird Mountain, Mt. Sterling Ridge, and the Smoky Mountains. While the summit and tower are accessible from Cosby, Big Creek, and Appalachian Trail, the most popular route follows the Low Gap Trail to the Mt. Cammerer Trail through pleasant, grassy areas as well as rough, craggy areas.
